Coconut Water and Mango
Screenprint, hand-embellished
11 in × 15 in edition of 4

Coconut Water and Mango is based on a photograph I took in Belize of horses gathering beneath a mango tree, eating fruit that had fallen to the ground. The scene captures a quiet, everyday moment that reflects the rhythms of rural life and the close relationship between land, animals, and seasonal abundance.

The image is translated through screenprinting and hand embellishment, emphasizing the textured surface and tonal grain characteristic of printmaking. The warm monochromatic palette recalls sun-faded photographs and the heat of tropical landscapes, reinforcing the sensory memory tied to place.

The title references familiar elements of Belizean life—mango trees heavy with fruit and the refreshment of coconut water—simple experiences that become markers of memory and identity. Through printmaking, the image transforms a fleeting moment into a layered reflection on home, observation, and lived environment.
